So, my life has been a mess as of late.
Oh, but isn’t that always the case in your life you might ask? Pretty much, but for once I thought I had it together.
For those that don’t know, I was involved with a woman and living with her. We had a few minor difficulties, but all in all everything seemed fine. Until she lost her job and I had to work harder to maintain our ability to live in the NOVA area and stopped paying quite so much attention to her. The result? She stepped outside the relationship, I discovered it, wanted to leave but really had no where to go so I forced myself to forgive her on the grounds that she and the person she had her “indiscretion” with never interact again in any way. She cried, begged forgiveness, claimed to realize the error of her ways and then continued doing whatever she wanted behind my back, thinking she was being sneaky. I caught her again and informed her in no uncertain terms that she and I were done.
She was the first woman I brought home to my parents for a major family holiday. I very much planned to marry her. I won’t be.
The moral of the story? Once a cheat, always a cheat. If you catch him/her at it once…it is just going to continue.
Another lesson learned the hard way is that no matter how hard you try to be that “perfect someone” for another person it really isn’t possible. I consider myself a far better person then I was one year ago today and a world’s better person then I was two years ago. I’ve grown, I’ve lived, I’ve learned, but no matter how hard you try there is always a gap.
And the final lesson? When you realize his/her friends are giving you dirty looks all the time there is probably a reason. In my case it was because she insisted on telling everyone how scared she was of me because I am a gun owner and a conservative and her liberal feminist friends decided that I was either beating her or was planning on beating her. Ya, it’s been a great end to this relationship.
The hope is I come out stronger on the other side. There will be relocation in my future and possible employment changes on the horizon. This will be the last maudlin “oh woe is me post” I do.
